Twelve Foot Ninja are arguably one of the most innovative heavy bands in the world today. With plenty of accolades from overseas including Winner of Best New Talent in their genre in the USA, they are now ARIA Award nominees in Australia, and twice breakers of crowdfunding records.

Bec Sandridge

In The Fog’ is a collection of 5 songs that exemplify Bec’s incredible range as an artist and songwriter. Title track and radio favourite ‘In The Fog, In The Flame’ opens the EP with a bang, followed by the highly stylised disco-pulses of ‘You’re A Fucking Joke’. Woozy daydreamer ‘High Tide’ is the perfect mid-point, taking the listener to a softer place with a heartfelt rendition of Roy Orbison’s ‘I Drove All Night’ and closing with the gentle melodies of ‘I Keep Running Back’.

The past couple of years have been quite a journey for the young artist. With humble beginnings busking on the streets between Wollongong and Glasgow, a fortunate meeting with fellow buskers Passenger and Stu Larsen prompted Bec to defer uni and join them on their UK tour, cementing her decision to pursue a life in music. In 2015, Bec released the Tony Buchan (Andy Bull, The Preatures) produced single (and lead track of the new EP) ‘In The Fog, In The Flame’ to an insatiable response. Shortly after, she was the winner of Triple J Unearthed, played Yours & Owls Festival, opened the stage at Newtown Festival and has toured with Little May and Half Moon Run

After over a decade of making music, they’re still as thirsty as ever.

They’ve released an indie EP, which garnered triple J airplay back in 2003, three critically acclaimed studio albums, an acoustic fan favourites record entitled ‘AAA: Acoustic Anniversary Album’ and a swag of classic tracks such as “20 Good Reasons”, “Emancipate Myself”, “Someday Someday”, “Mousetrap Heart” and “In The Summertime.” Australian rock stalwarts Thirsty Merc are still excited to be making music, and hungrier than ever before to extend their legacy.

Vocalist and songwriter Rai Thistlethwayte says, “We’ve haven’t really stopped since 2002, and being around for over a decade, we’ve got lots more experience than when we started. We’ve also got still got loads of energy, and we want to harness that energy to work hard, around the clock, to continue touring and making good music.”

The band is ensuring they return to the rock roots they unleashed on their first record. “A really important element for us is going into the same headspace of where it all began, and we’re lucky enough to be working with the producer who helmed our first album, Lindsay Gravina.”

Thistlethwayte's ready to flex his songwriting muscles on the forthcoming record, and this time round, he says, his songs are “exploring life on the road, emotional honesty and about my reconciliation with the concept of love, which a very complex thing. I’ve written a lot of straight up love songs, and to be honest, I’m ready to wear my heart on my sleeve a lot more than I have on previous records.”

“We really want to tour this album to as many of our fans as we possibly can. We want to tour rural areas just as much as the regional and metropolitan areas. We want to have a solid playlist of songs, and our new album is a way of adding a strong new body of work to our existing catalogue.”

It’s been more than four decades since drummer/producer Bobby Colomby and friends assembled the first group to successfully blend rock and jazz into a genre-crossing sound and style. So successfully in fact, that the band’s second album, Blood, Sweat & Tears, topped the Billboard charts for many weeks and beat out the Beatles’ Abbey Road for the prestigious Album of the Year Grammy award. That album produced three major hit singles: “You Made me so Very Happy,” “Spinning Wheel,” and “And When I Die.”

But now Colomby is looking for much more as he develops Blood Sweat & Tears into a contemporary voice, one that reaches beyond a single, nostalgic audience.

“I no longer want to target just one generation. That would be a mistake. With this updated version, I want this band to gain recognition with a wider audience. I want people of all ages to experience what this music has to offer.

Will Blood, Sweat & Tears have any of the original members?

“Not a chance,” says Colomby. The last member to leave the band from the first album in 1977. I think of this band like baseball’s Yankees. “When you’re at a Yankee game you’re not going to see Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle or Lou Gehrig. What you do come to expect is a team of top-notch players upholding a tradition of winning. That’s the Yankee legacy. It what people expect from BS&T as well… brilliant musicians, singers, songs and arrangements.

Towards that end, Blood, Sweat & Tears will perform their hits with spirit and enthusiasm, as if it was their first performance of those songs. The band will also introduce some new elements into every performance, including a segment devoted to “Songs We Wish We Had Recorded,” done in classic B,S & T style.

Bobby Colomby’s enthusiastic comments underscore his excitement about the future. The arrival of this latest version of Blood, Sweat & Tears is the next chapter in a musical tale that stretches from the creativity and turbulence of the late ‘60s to the swiftly changing world of the 21st Century. The next invigorating phase in the continuing adventures of B, S & T is about to begin.

2016 has already been a year to remember, even for a band with as epic a career as Australian rock icons The Living End.

Having released the Top 5 ARIA chart album Shift in May; mounting the sold out national Shift tour; performing on the massive stage at the 2016 AFL Grand Final; headlining festivals around the country; and scoring nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Australian Live Act at this year's ARIA Awards - it was a year in which the kings of Australian rock reclaimed their throne after a five-year hiatus after their 2011 ARIA-Award winning album, The Ending Is Just The Beginning Repeating.

However, the band is already set to roll on into 2017 with the announcement they'll be playing a series of special Zoo shows in Sydney and Melbourne, before hitting the road for the Staring Down The Highway Tour, which will head regionally throughout the country, starting in March. These regional shows will see the band play a series of mediums-sized venues and clubs, allowing fans the chance to see them play some of their most intimate shows in years.

They will be supported by Australia's premier Psychedelic Reggae Ska Doom Metal Punk Rock band From Hell and triple j faves The Bennies, who will bring a whole-new brand of punk rock energy and exuberance to the stage, sure to wow TLE fans with their high-flying antics. Having previously supported punk heavyweights like NOFX AND Rancid, they're no strangers to playing with punk rock royalty, and they're set to claim another picture card when they head out with The Living End in March.
